❔DID YOU KNOW… “normal” newborns cry… a ❔DID YOU KNOW… “normal” newborns cry… a lot!
- A newborn baby may cry 2 hours a day in the first 6 weeks.
- Crying peeks around 6-8 weeks.
- Babies cry more in the first 3 months than at any other time.

💟Don’t think you are screwing up if your baby is crying a lot. There are reasons babies cry that cannot be treated or fixed. But staying strong, whilst ensuring they are comfortable, well fed, giving loads of cuddles, and soothing them is the best you can do!

There is a light at the end of the tunnel..these periods while testing will pass so always make sure you have your support network around you to help you through this and be kind to yourself.

If you do feel that something is not right with your baby, don’t hesitate to reach out to a health professional..sometimes it’s just the reassurance we need to know what is normal and abnormal.
⭐️Calcium is a mineral that is crucial for you ⭐️Calcium is a mineral that is crucial for your bone and overall health. It has a significant impact on the growth and development of children and adolescents, as they grow rapidly and need adequate calcium to meet bone growth demand.

A LOW intake of calcium is associated with low bone density (called osteoporosis) and is one of the major causes of morbidity amongst older Australians, particularly postmenopausal women.

A HIGH calcium intake throughout life along with adequate vitamin D, zinc and exercise reduces the incidence of osteoporosis and the risk of bone fracture.

Here are some great sources of calcium to add to your diet!
- Dairy foods such as cow’s milk, yoghurt and cheese
- Fortified non-dairy milks such as oat milk, soy milk or almond milk
- Green vegetables such as spinach, kale, and broccoli
- Brazil nuts and almonds
- Salmon
- Tofu

😇All of us have heard about the importance of breastfeeding, but do you know why colostrum is important in the first few days of life of your baby? Colostrum is that clear and sticky liquid produced by new mums as early as 16 weeks into pregnancy! It’s also called the “first milk” or “liquid gold” because its an incredible source of enzymes, antibodies and growth factors, all of them helping your newborn to fight disease and promote growth.

Let’s step up education and support for breastfeeding this #WBW2022!
💞Probiotics are not only good for your gut but 💞Probiotics are not only good for your gut but also display beneficial effects in pregnancy! Studies have shown that sources of probiotics, including probiotic yoghurt, can improve maternal health and pregnancy outcomes, through improving metabolism, decreasing inflammation, and preventing infection.

More specifically on probiotic yoghurt🥣
- Probiotic yoghurt was used as a treatment for bacterial vaginosis and displayed beneficial results that are shown to prevent early labour due to maternal infection.
- Consumption of probiotic yoghurt displayed antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. This is important especially during pregnancy, as it is commonly a time of high inflammation due to an increase in oxygen demand from the baby!
- Probiotic yoghurt was found to have beneficial effects on metabolism and prevents insulin resistance, decreasing the likelihood of gestational diabetes.

✨Here are our favourite sources of probiotics:
Yoghurt
Cheese
Tempeh
Kimchi
Sauerkraut
Pickles

🤱🏼What are some benefits of Breastfeeding for the BABY?
- Breastmilk adapts to your baby’s changing needs as they get older and have fewer feeds.
- The taste of breastmilk changes with whatever you’ve eaten, which means that breastfed babies are likely to accept new tastes when they start eating solids.
- Breastmilk contains all the nutrients your baby needs for around the first 6 months of life.
- Breastmilk is easy to digest and is easily absorbed into your baby’s immature system.

⭐️DID YOU KNOW… changes in diet, living habi ⭐️DID YOU KNOW… changes in diet, living habits and hormone levels during pregnancy increase the risk of dental diseases such as gingivitis, pregnancy epulis, periodontitis and varies? These diseases not only affect the nutrition and health status of women themselves, but also impact the normal growth and development of the foetus, which are correlated with risks in pregnancy and birth such as prematurity, foetal growth restriction and pre-eclampsia.

❔What can we do to minimise this??
- Brush teeth 2x a day with fluoride toothpaste
- Floss daily
- Visit the dentist regularly
- Have a balanced diet with high quality protein, whole foods and vegetables
- Focus on folic acid, choline, and omega 3 fatty acids.
